Where have I harassed you at TEO? And how is commenting on your ridiculous tough man behavior over there in this very thread, titled "Goddamned SDN," harassment?Flagg wrote:He's is mad because I called him names like 6 months ago, so now he goes around on both boards harassing me. It's pretty funny.

Occupy doesn't count as political dissent being repressed because I don't agree with them
Re: Godammed SDN
i edited this out but that link said "psychologists have found that humans have difficulty blah blah"
and i was sayinghumans American undergrads
it really bugs me how so many psych things are done with surveys at american colleges but then extrapolated to all of humanity
idk maybe that works but i don't believe it is all that reliable. i'd feel better if it at least included some other country's college students too, or cold called numbers out of the phone book to include some old people too
besides if you were going to steal an election wouldn't you have a system for that instead of just making up numbers off the top of your head?

Re: Godammed SDN
In principle their experimental design should account for it
But most survey data posted on sdn is the worst kind of trash which is why people get cross when there's no methology info
Cause the default methodology assumption is 'it sucked'

from one of those links i posted on teo
it is interesting how easily we're swayed by people visiting us
locally there's another congressional election coming up (of course)
the incumbent is a democrat and a lawyer from the other side of the district.
he won the election by talking about milk prices. i voted for him.
but now the republican challenger is a lawyer from....... my town. well he was born in alex bay a lil north but hell i've been there too
anywho now he lives here in watertown
i think i've actually seen him at the grocery store!
i prolly won't vote for him on policy differences but the simple fact that i *might* have actually seen him easily changes some feelings
In the course of the last four years, Ahmadinejad, indeed, has focused much of his government’s attention on rural development and meeting the needs of those who live in the more than 50,000 villages across the country and, crucially, has visited nearly every district in the country, which is an unprecedented achievement by any ruler in the nation’s history.
[...]
Indeed, an article in the Washington Post[18], claiming that support for him was falling in the run up to election day, nonetheless reported that many residents of the town had appreciated the simple fact that he was the first head of government to visit their small town and were prepared to vote for him merely on account of this.

Re: Godammed SDN
Meeting people face to face is a huge support winner. I've had to push some of the greener candidates this election to go out and door knock and get their faces out in the community. As soon as they started doing it they realized how effective it is in winning people over. So many undecideds make up their mind based on which candidate made the best impression, or only impression, at the door. A lot of I own supporters make the decision to actually vote for their chosen candidate based on the candidate taking the time to knock and say hi.
It takes a lot of time, though. Even my MLA has had to prioritize existing supporters and multi-resident homes because he's running out of time to reach every polling division, and this is the gutty at knocked every door back in the day before he crossed the floor.
Out of curiosity, how common is it for legislators to cross the floor in your respective legislative assemblies? I know in Manitoba it's been illegal since 2005/06.

Labour forbids its MPs from cross the floor. It happens in other parties though. Sir Reg crossed the floor 150 times.

Certainly an enlightening article. Paints a very different picture from the common portrayal of Ahmadinejad as a crazy man who keeps power through fear of the west. I don't want Iran to obtain nuclear weapons, but this makes it seem like they have reasonable politicians who are a lot like ours. People we can actually have a reasonable exchange of ideas with rather than a collection of screaming fanatics with the Quran in one hand and a 16th century scimitar in the other.
