I'd say so.

I'd also argue that if America going to war stopped the holocaust, Russia going to war stopped the holocaust even more. The US may have contributed a lot by having production centers that the Axis couldn't attack, but it was the Soviets who did most of the legwork in bleeding the Nazi war machine dry.

But, of course, Russia only went to war with Germany because the Nazis invaded.

So Hitler is responsible for stopping the Holocaust

Yeah it's just the experience people have reading actual history about their armed forces

And all the bad shit they've done and the dissonance with public perception or the shared myth

ANZAC DAY LOL

"cheese eating surrendering monkey"

Yeah, don't mind how many French died during the Battle of France because they just wouldn't surrender, and how the Dunkerque Evacuation's success was only possible because of the sacrifice of French soldiers who held the line till the very end.

But I suppose America has the monopole of bravery, somehow ; or that it's so insecure about its own achievements that it has to belittle those of others to feel good about its owns, I guess ?
No.

America has the monopoly on not showing up until the war is over

This was their mistake in Vietnam

The war was actually still in doubt when they arrived!

Well, the most devastating war in US history was a pretty small brush war by European or Asian standards. Make of that what you will.

I've had conch before, and those are just huge ass snails.

It was pretty good, I suppose. I prefer alligator, though.

I'm not fond of eating frogs, though. Frog legs always taste a little rich and fishy for me. I eat them every once in a while to remind me why I don't eat them any more often.

Even the west needs to own its own history, not just the guys that lost, rather than running uni courses on mass murder being ok of you can spin it right afterward
Sophie's choice sucks even more for nation-states than for individuals, because instead of deciding between which child lives or dies, you have to decide between hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of individuals. Who knew?
Shoulda just nuked Kandahar am I rite?
Cuz the Taliban and al Qaeda are exactly like the highly centralized and hierarchical Japanese Empire during WWII and actually were trying to think about what sort of damage the US armed forces could do their civilians. :v

Prior to '41 would have been hard for the US to go to war anyway, what with not actually amping up it's own industry until Pearl Harbor. Had Imperial Japan not attacked Pearl Harbor, it's questionable if the US would have gotten involved in WWII at all.

Depends entirely on the scale. It was only small compared to what came later.

FDR was chomping at the bit and it was pretty much a matter of time until we got in one way or another (probably via escalating Battle of the Atlantic)
