so nerds and scifi franchises
Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
If you dropped darth vader in ww2 would he take over the world
Or be all fucked up because the psychological mechanism he relied on to deal with his emotional problems has been torn away and he now has no goals

remember that one episode of stargate sg1 where one of the goauld was on earth with all his knowledge, his collection of high tech shit and whatnot
and yet the best he could accomplish was to get a small cult of followers

Man the Goa'uld couldn't even take over the world when they co-opted an already existing shadow government agency with considerable resources.

Seasons 1-8 are the best. 9 is so/so. I don't think I want to remember 10.Phantasee wrote:All ten seasons of SG-1 are on Netflix. Should I watch any of it?

They aren't all on Netflix in the States, at least. Many require a disc.
Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
i actually liked sg1 season 9 and 10 when i watched it a second time
didn't really like it the first time
but did the second time
i think the difference is the first time i got really annoyed with how different it was
new characters, the plots changed, they barely even used the stargate anymore
but the second time i found mysel enjoying the new characters and stories as more like a spin off almost to watch and like on its own merits
instead of OMG THEY CHANGED MY SHOW THOSE BASTARDS

Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
my complaint is that season 8 was really a great spot to end the series if they wanted to
but they decided "nah let's run this into the ground who needs an ending lol"

I miss BSG.
Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
I think the main problem with the last few series is the hilarious sexism
mcguyver dropped out of the show, so do they put carter with her years of experience in charge of the team?
lolnope, let's bring in another character who's just like jack o'neil in the same position in the cast, but without the charm
the ori were potentially interesting though, in that they basically were gods... but they didn't really explore that like they should've
Oh whoops spoilers lol

Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
I'll be damned. I can't believe I never noticed that.
Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
there's an outtake out there somewhere (a friend showed it to me on a DVD I think), from the episode where o'neil and carter were trapped in an ice cave with a broken stargate. He's all like 'carter get on with fixing the stargate' then she goes
'Oh damnit, why don't you fix the damn thing! You're mcguyver for christ's sake, why don't you just improvise a nuclear reactor out of a couple of rubber bands and a chocolate bar, or make a subspace radio out of your hat!'
before that outburst, they were thinking of axing the character

Probably Carter.
Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
carter of course, mcguyver was one of the executive producers
(or was that only later on?)

Re: so nerds and scifi franchises
No, RDA was always involved as producer (at least for the first eight seasons).

Netflix doesn't do discs in Canada, it's a streaming only service.Knubble tov wrote:They aren't all on Netflix in the States, at least. Many require a disc.
