Zod's kickstarter plan
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
So if Google isn't lying to me driving times might be better than I thought. Only 2 hours to drive from Portland to Astoria, so the rest shouldn't take more than a couple hours a leg. Woo.

Map everything out before beginning the Kickstarter stuff.
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Naturally, but I've still got a few months to do that. I don't need to hammer out everything in one go.Knubble tov wrote:Map everything out before beginning the Kickstarter stuff.

I think I'm going to step up the timetable on this for better marketing. If I manage to exceed my funding goals, I could actually quit my job and dedicate my full attention to filming this thing by Halloween. I figure spooky mini series released by Halloween means way more attention. (Yeah yeah, counting my chickens etc.)
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Dude. Japanese tsunami shit is still washing up on the Oregon coast, too.
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Not really in the scope of what I want to do, but I think I've got a few new angles to spice it up a bit from a typically stale documentary. How many haunted ghost documentaries have their show hosted by a masked warlock?
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
i figure if i'm doing a ghost-umentary i might as well crank the ridiculous bullshit up to 11Phantasee wrote:christ

Hmm, okay, maybe not hosted by. But I'm thinking I could get some mileage out of the warlock idea for advertising and hype-building.

i've settled against it after about a few hours of thought because it would take too much workLosonti Tokash wrote:do not do thisZod wrote:How many haunted ghost documentaries have their show hosted by a masked warlock?
i'm fickle
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Okay, so no more warlock idea, but what about trolling the shit out of the audience? A reverse blair-witch, as it were, in the last part of the miniseries. (Have something seem to happen then show everyone involved totally fine after the credits with a big "Gotcha" at the end.)

Way too expensive.Knubble tov wrote:Zod, cheek out the Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera.

Especially since I've done some more maths and calculated my new minimum budget at $20,000 with fewer filming locations.

Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Are there any cameras you're looking at?
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
I don't have anything specific in mind yet, but I'm a ways off from being fussy about hardware. I figure I'll be launching this thing after I get back from San Francisco next month, when I'll have the cash to actually pay for a few ads. (I've got a total camera budget of about $2,500-3,000 for camcorders and a DSLR.)Knubble tov wrote:Are there any cameras you're looking at?
I'll probably wind up going with an entry Canon or Nikkon with a few lenses for the still pictures.

Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Will you use an external sound source? I've been looking at the Zoom H4N. If you can get a boom mic for a reasonable price, have an assistant help you.
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Maybe. A shotgun mic at the minimum. I'd have to do some test shots with the camcorder I get before I decide on sound hardware. I'm assuming I'll have a bare minimum of people helping out, so I can't really afford to get extravagant with my hardware.Knubble tov wrote:Will you use an external sound source? Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
DSLR's are nice, but they do have some limitations. I would not recommend using a DSLR you've never used before to film a documentary. Also, the onboard mics are universally horrible. If you're looking for something where you can buy lenses for both, take a look at the Sony NEX range. I think Canon may have a comparable range as well.
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
I was going off of the exorbitant cameras some were suggesting.
Re: Zod's kickstarter plan
Nah, like I already said I plan on keeping the cameras relatively low end.Questor wrote:I was going off of the exorbitant cameras some were suggesting.

Shouldn't you be loaded from your 3d printing post scarcity machine?

I wrote that off after the hardware ate itself.zhaktronz wrote:Shouldn't you be loaded from your 3d printing post scarcity machine?
