It's funny to me that btech exists in a post gundam world

And uC gundam is built on a conceit to enable short range agility based combat

But btech just hopes you won't think about it

Is anyone going to mention that a targeting computer weighs a ton? Ps they found the helm memory core they should have better computers than 1953

400m, well you don't need a targeting computer I suppose, if you don't object to wasting a lot of ammo.

the real question is if you know how far away something is

how can you miss it with indirect fire at less than a kilometer

maybe their rocket-aiming motors only have three positions :V

I know you know this Stark but battletech isn't post Gundam

1979 vs 1985 lol

I guess in the west it's post Gundam

more like post Armored Core really

like you said on the old testingstan

ps i love the Karasawa rifle

giving the player access to the best weapon early in the game is great yes/no

but gundam is 1979

btech is 80s

that's ... after... 1979

i don't get it :(

and having a huge list of nearly but not-quite identical weapons is fine if you want decisions to be based on style

not fine if you have two entire screens full of statistics to compare

Btech is heaps better then SW though.

Well maybe not but at least there mechs don't have the gunner or driver exposed.

Best military kit in sci-fi my ass.

some of them have big gallery-style windows

often by a head with an angry face painted on :)

i thought i remember hearing Mechwarrior 2 was based on Wing Commander 3 or something

maybe that was Starfleet Academy which i also have :[

yeah i mean i'm having fun replaying the console version

not that it can't be frustratingly stupid at times

like in the console version you can only link weapons into three groups A,B, and C so if you have extras they just get their own slot. wat

and I'm not sure MW2 was even that great for its time. I mean the Jane's Combat Simulations games were released a year later and look and play better as far as a simulator goes. If people want to say Mechwarrior is simhard I think comparing it to flight sims of the time is sorta valid.

If I drove a giant war bot, I'd paint an angry face on as well.

Maybe there for psychological purposes only. Doesn't the pilot wear a helmet that plugs into his brain anyways?

the helmet apparently only does balance

y'know cause the 5 ton gyro isn't enough, it needs to use the pilots inner ear

everything else is buttons

i visualise a yoke or steering wheel :V

for me the difference between btech and good robot shit is that btehc uses a steering wheel, cause it's like a tank, and you peer at crosshairs while nudging the turret around because it's like a tank

good robot stuff uses airplane controls run through fly-by-wire computers and the robot aims itself based on pilot input

and has 360 degree picture-in-picture sensor fusion cockpit displays

but i fuckin digress
