Board RPG Thing?
Re: Board RPG Thing?
how much are we supposed to know at the beginning of the game?
because I'd quite like to play a preacher slowly losing his faith as revelation after revelation hits home and he slowly realises that everything he's ever cared about is utterly meaningless and we're all bacteria living on a thin scum floating on a roaring ocean of horrors etc

Los:
Dr. Tokash is at least 32 years of age, and is an MD. He is of above average strength, willpower, and appearance, with a weak constitution and ordinary dexterity. He is slightly above average in height and is brilliant. He has 67 Sanity points, 11 HP, does an extra 1d4 damage with his fists, has an 80% chance of hunches or knowing random facts, and a 60% chance of lucky breaks. His best skills are doctoring, administering first aid, speaking English, using libraries, beating on people, smooth-talking, biology, psychology, psychotherapy, Latin, pharmacology, driving, shooting people, and having money in his bank account in that order. He has a 20% chance of dodging punches. I can fiddle with this a bit if you'd like.
Zabs:
Zabby Porkotelli is strong, but physically frail and clumsy. He is strong of will and a virtual Adonis, with slightly above-average height. He is intelligent and probably has multiple doctorates, or at least a doctorate and two master's. He has 65 Sanity points, an 80% chance of hunches and a 99% chance of knowing random facts, with a 65% chance of lucky breaks. He has 10 HP and does +1d4 damage with his fists, with 13 MP. His best skills, in order, are speaking English, having money in his bank account, smooth-talking, punching people, listening, dodging things (66% chance), using electronics, photography, the occult, the arts, the art of disguise, and wrestling. These also can be changed around a little.
evilsoup:
Father Charles Griswold is physically weak, clumsy, unattractive, and weak-minded. He is pretty overweight and has a sturdy frame and a sound mind, and has his Master of Theology. He has 50 Sanity points, a 65% chance of hunches, an 85% chance of random knowledge from the seminary, a 50% chance of lucky breaks, 14 HP, +1d4 damage from his bulk, and an 18% chance of dodging punches (those vestments are heavy). His best skills are English, research, Church Latin, history, listening, persuasion, accounting, shooting rifles, smooth-talking, psychology, having money in his bank account, law, and the occult in order.
Nietzslime:
Norville Rogers is physically very weak, but with a tough body and average dexterity and looks. He has virtually no willpower. He is tall and lean, with a decent brain and a master's in zoology. He has 20 Sanity points, 70% chances of hunches and knowing random facts, and a 20% chance of lucky breaks. He has 16 HP, no damage bonus. His best skills are jumping, English, listening, natural history, hiding, bargaining, fast-talking people, library use, biology, sneaking around, and Latin. Again, these are somewhat changeable.
Oxy:
Henry Bemis has average strength, toughness, and appearance, with slightly below-average dexterity and above-average willpower. He's tall, bright, and has a Ph.D in Library Science as well as an unrelated degree. He has 65 Sanity points, a 70% chance of hunches, a 65% chance of lucky breaks, a 90% chance of knowing random facts, 14 HP, and a +1d4 damage bonus from his huge frame. His best skills, in order, are English, research, history, persuasion, swimming, the occult, French, computer usage, climbing, martial arts, and first aid. He has an 18% chance of dodging fists.

Edit:
Anyway Baks someone asked earlier and I didn't see an answer: what's the time frame you're planning the game to be set in?

Re: Board RPG Thing?
I like my character.
Question about "unrelated degree" : does it mean I get to choose another degree for him ? Like a master in something ?

No.

I'm hurt.
I'd like a professor - think Ray from ghostbusters for personality.
Backstory wise, I can work with Oxy.

Re: Board RPG Thing?
Going by the fact my character has "computer usage" as one of his competences, I'd hazard a guess that it might be contemporary or posterior to the 1980's.Losonti Tokash wrote:Anyway Baks someone asked earlier and I didn't see an answer: what's the time frame you're planning the game to be set in?

Re: Board RPG Thing?
Could be earlier, Library Science was involved with computers pretty early.

What about my character, Baks? D:
I plan on being a surly, perpetually angry veteran of the war before the last war, whatever that might be. Desert Storm, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Spanish-American, Indian Wars, War of 1812, Revolution, King Philip's War. Whatever, I'm down.

I will also note when I say veteran of the last war, I do not necessarily mean a veteran of the US armed services.

Re: Board RPG Thing?
aight, fanfiction time
norville wynn rogers is an oxy addict from the holler
based on my peculiar facility with platform gaming skills, languages, and the natural sciences, i'mma saynorville wynn rogers is sort of a poor man's update of one of lovecraft's classic style of characters - the explorer-scientist type who's in way over his head
but after a particularly taxing and fruitless expedition to catalogue endangered amphibians in the east african rift, that involved spending many days delusional with fever and bed-ridden by a broken leg that began his addiction to pain-killers, which ended when his grant money was unexpectedly cut off, he came back to [GAME SETTING TOWN] to convalesce, taking a part-time sessional lecturer position at the local college
how's that

Re: Board RPG Thing?
Okay, so we've got a drunk fisherman, a professor of something, and a veteran of the "last war".
Questor: Professor Raymond Stantz is well-muscled but skinny, with fumble-fingers. He has a strong force of will and looks about average. He is of only average intelligence, getting to his position with a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and ME in Chemical Engineering mainly through persistence and innate aptitudes. He has 65 Sanity points, a 55% chance of hunches, a 65% chance of lucky breaks, a 95% chance of knowing random facts, 11 HP, and a +1d4 damage bonus with his fists. His best skills are English, research, chemist, electronics, having money in his bank account, German, programming, bargaining, Russian, Mandarin, repairing things, and persuasion. He, along with Oxy's librarian and Nietz's oxycontin-popping lecturer, are employed at Saint Sebastian's, the local Jesuit college.
Aaron: Gordon Bowerman is frail and a little clumsy, with a strong mind and good looks. He is bright, but quit high school to help with his dad's business. Now he's semi-retired, drinking and fishing his days away. He has 65 Sanity points, a 65% chance of hunches, a 65% chance of lucky breaks, and a 55% chance of knowing random factoids. He has 11 HP and has no damage bonus. His best skills are English, fishing, shooting things with a shotgun, swimming, first aid, natural history, piloting a boat, sneaking, hiding, fast-talking, and bargaining.
Akhlut: Joaquin Carro Garcia is slim-looking, but tougher than he looks, and is quite deft with his fingers and light on his feet, as befits a former Cuban special forces commando. Unfortunately, his willpower is below average and he's no looker. He is bright, but only has a high-school education. He has 40 Sanity points, a 65% chance of random hunches, a 40% chance of lucky breaks, a 60% chance of knowing random facts, 16 HP, and +1d4 damage to all of his attacks. His best skills are shooting rifles, swimming, Spanish, shooting submachineguns, giving first aid, repairing mechanical devices, climbing, persuading, shooting machine guns, speaking English, dodging, and smooth-talking.
Income: Zabs makes a cool 500k a year, with 2.5 million in the bank, his home equity, and his investment portfolio. Akhlut makes 25k a year on what work his former commando is able to get in this Upper Midwestern town. Los's Action Doctor makes 75k a year, just starting out with his practice, and Questor's professor makes about the same. Aaron, Nietzslime, and Evilsoup make about 35k a year between retirement income and the Catholic Church. Finally, Oxy's college librarian makes a cool 55k a year.
Map of Upper Midwestern Town + Environs coming soon, drawn in glorious freeware image editing software with a mouse and bad jokes.
