But are they Long Beach or San Fran seals? That's the burning question. Darn pests either way.

San Francisco, since I'm nowhere near Long Beach. Also I've decided against moving here because holy fuck the hills are awful. Not going up them, going down them. :psypop:

Lol, see if you can find some 22mm dummy rifle grenades on the way. Its got a launcher.

Actually I think I'll see if I can find one of those golf ball launchers for it.

Yugo, one of the rare ones. Never even heard of Romanian ones in Canada.

Whoops, got my firearms trivia wrong there. The Yugo SKSs have the grenade launchers, and the Romanian SKSs have the blade, not spike, bayonets. Maybe that's why you haven't seen them in Canada.

Baks-kun wrote:so after reading the algebra thread over on that other forum, you know the one, i have one response

possibly the reason that people fail exit exams involving algebra at such high rates is because the methods used don't encourage them to retain anything and so they only memorize for the class and let it go afterwards, rather than kids these days (or rather, younger members of one's own generational cohort, lol) being mentally handicapped universally

so this would suggest reworking the way algebra and other mathematical subjects are taught to improve retention, but of course pedagogy is a useless bit of humanities lol

besides these kind of people would then feel a sense of anger at no longer being an elite, i'm sure
I've wondered if the problem is that they never really relate why you need to know this stuff (beyond passing the test) to their students, and thus the kids just don't give a shit. Like yay I can solve for y when 3x+2y = 5x - 7y or whatever, but what's the point beyond "teacher said so"?

Perhaps they need to do a better job relating algebra to the real world so kids will give a shit? And not the lame "Susie has 3 apples and Timmy has 5 apples" bullshit. But something like this:

Another fun example. A few years ago a work colleague and I kept tearing belt loops on our pants as they got caught on a part of an office doorframe. We didn't know what it was actually called and googled it. Turns out it was the Strike Plate that was the culprit!

Strike plate sounds like part of a unionist or socialist door frame, sir.

Hospital food isn't that bad, if you occasionally visit McDonald's. It's better than a cold cheeseburger.

Man, aerius thinking that somehow being all mathematical would somehow solve the cultural and political issues that actually cause unyielding debt is hilarious.
