Anderson's newer works likely can't touch Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic (I saw Darjeeling Limited and hated it). I want to see Moonrise, but I'll wait for home video.

What didn't you like about Moonrise?

I just got word from my insurance company.

Last year I was caught speeding while driving in a borrowed car. Since I was going to be out of the country at the time of the trial I hired a lawyer and managed to get not-totally-assraped.

Now my insurance company says that, even though the car I was driving was insured with another provider and I didn't formally ask for legal assistance... they're still reimbursing both my lawyer's fees and the court costs.

Isn't that nice.

It felt like a circle jerk of hipsters imagining themselves as children who act super quirky, hip, and are smarter than all the adults around them. I loathed half of the child actors involved, he used a bunch of the same tropes that he'd used in other films but much less... artfully? Sort of like it was just there to remind you you were watching a Wes Anderson movie. They also tried to ram in a couple subplots which were far more interesting to me than the rest of the movie, but they were never really explored at any length and when they were touched on it was trading off with the main plot.

Darjeeling Limited was fucking terrible.

Apple haters are pretty hilarious. "No legitimate reason to hate the machines, but let's strawman everyone else anyway."

The only point that was halfway valid is the "Apple markets itself to hipsters" thing. They pretty much do. But it's a mistake on their part considering how great their products are, even if overpriced.

I'm inclined to write off anyone that complains about Apple's marketing as a whiny fatso. Unless you identify with the image they're making fun of who cares?

All I'm saying is that in every fucking ad for apple they feature a douchebag hipster. To the point that competitors mock them in their own ads. I'm not complaining so much as saying it's a somewhat valid point. I agree with you that people who bitch about Apples advertising should be openly mocked.

I don't think you understand how marketing works
But that's no surprise

Ps some products are marketed at successful business operators
This is not because only successful business operators are the market
It's because the market desires to be successful
Ie look at any razor ad
Do they only sell to ridiculously cut male models with shadowy women in the background
Or do they sell to men who desire to be attractive and have women

Jesus Christ i should just run a fucking lecture

You should. I'd pay to listen. But you don't wanna market to me. :smug:

some apple adverts are kind of annoying
just ones I've been linked to you understand, I can't remember seeing an apple advert in the wild
and stark, pretty much anyone who owns a gaming pc is an idiot, just for spending that much money when they could have got a console

The easy solution to annoying ads is to quit watching TV.

No, it's to get a DVR.

(I turn the sound off for adverts omg stealing)
the apple adverts I'm thinking of would probably make me go out of my way not to buy an apple product tbh
I'll find an example if you want

I mean I can see what they're trying for, but failed comedy is just the worst

maybe i'm being dumb but if competitors are making ads that directly reference apple's campaigns and it's immediately obvious they're doing so

isn't that a massive success for apple's marketing

It depends. I mean in one sense "any news is good news", but in another it shows a percieved weakness in Apple's marketing by their competitors.

it's not what they're advertising (which is a useful service, I'm sure), it's the way they're doing it
IDK, I guess behaving like a prat might make them come across as more casual & that could help if it works; but to me the humour falls flat, and I can't stand that kind of trying too hard failed comedy

Evilsoup : just as a thought exercise

imagine the exact same commercial, but for another company that is not Apple

do you think your reaction would have been the same ?
No.

my reaction probably would have been the same actually
if an advert is shit enough, it puts me off the product
but then I'm not apple's target market anyway, since I can't afford their stuff

Apple's got a target market: everyone that uses a portable music device, cellphone, personal computer, laptop, or tablet. Also people that listen to music, watch TV and movies, and a couple other things I forget right now.

Or people who don't like cheap plastic crap and value portability that doesn't sacrifice screen real estate or comfortable keyboards?
