Doesn't everyone drink 'synthahol'? I remember that episode of TNG, where a bunch of cryonically preserved 20th century guys are found, and one of them hates the taste of synthahol, so Riker has to get the replicator to make some whisky.

Yeah, mostly everyone drinks synthahol. But I was sure the real shit gets served here and there...

Romulan ale for a diplomatic hoo-ha?

I'm probably confusing myself, I know they had Rom. ale in TUC (of course I remember that, that film was PEAK TREK)

I mean seriously, I recommend TUC as an awesome film to people who don't even like Trek, because it is so good on its own merits.

I always thought it was kinda funny how Romulan Ale was pretty much always illegal. Though now that I think about it maybe it's meant to be some sort of allusion to Cuban cigars? So Romulans = Cuba?

Or

Since the RSE was supposed to be China(DON'T ARGUE WITH ME CHRIS) then Romulan Ale(wonder what the Romulans called it?) was actually opium

In STO it's on the second least valuable tier of items anyway. Nerve tonic is where the cocks are at 'cause it makes you dance like you want it

I found the whole embargo on romulan ale pretty bizarre; couldn't they just whip up a batch in the replicator? Same with latinum having any value.
Star Trek should logically be much more communist :colbert:

I always assume since it was blue it was less of an ale and more of a dessert wine, so I'm digging what you're saying.

Romulan ale is meant to be enjoyed, not analysed.

Hey mang, I'm from Straya, the country that brought you Wine In Cardboard Boxes(TM), and also introducing New And Improved Wine In Cans(TM). :australia:

I know, it's a travesty, but it was worse when the French followed suit. :frogs:

So, yeah... we don't have a RSE flag with a crying Reman in front of it... can we get one??

look just get a cheap crystal decanter

then mix in some blue curacao, and either vodka or gin. or some other clear liquor of your choosing.

boom, instant romulan ale.

Ha, see that's the problem, it's so hard to assume that romulan ale doesn't taste like a bittersweet cocktail.

The man took Harry's glass and had a small sip. He started laughing.

"What?" said Harry.

"This isn't Romulan Ale," said the stranger. "This is synthehol and Wild Berry Tasty-Ade. Next time make sure he hasn't switched bottles on you."

There actually were bottles of "Romulan Ale" for sale at the Star Trek Experience; I never drank one but I remember reading that it was basically just crappy beer that turned your shit blue.

i luv tng. just watched "allegiance" from S3 (inspired by the "debate" thread here; Worf refusing hte order to take Riker down rokked)

anywho p. good ep, like all tng, but a few things bugged me:

1) picard said starfleet classified the plague from the teaser as a "secret". why? why would they do that? the writer could have also used "it just happened so she wouldn't know", since, it was from the teaser. idk it just bugs me

2) they trap those alien things in a force field on the bridge. well if they could set up force fields like that... well wouldn't that be useful when the borg beam in to capture picard? why fight them instead of force field them?

(bobw is at the end of this season btw)

Well you can't have no use for money unless your civilization is truely post-scarcity. Since the Federation exists in a physical universe, there is scarcity (even if evenly allocating all resources would still leave each individual with unfathomable quantities of stuff.)

They probably have a centrally-managed command economy.
