adr wrote:Yes, and it seems to me that product placement is picking up in recent years. It's blatant and everywhere.

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention before though.
It's getting pretty bad. Like a whole five minute scene of a 'decision-making' montage...while Subway is very clearly and visibly the only food the entire group is eating.

Yeah. Subtle.

EDIT: I wonder if they're being more IN YOUR FACE about product placement because everyone knows people are just using DVRs and shit to skip commercials?

Maybe... but I think it is more that they can get away with it, so they do. The profit margins of television is surely down from where it used to be - much more competition means ratings that would get a show cancelled in 1980 is a dream in 2012. So they want to milk as much money out of it as they can, whether people watch the commercials or not.

And while we laugh at the product placement... is it enough to make us change the channel? Not for me.

oh and also in show pp works for dvds and web broadcasts but dvds make money from sales anyway and web viewers are still the minority so I doubt that's the deciding factor.

Hey Adam, that dickhead in a Farcebook comment thread I was telling you about-
He was commenting on news story about Bin Laden that Stas posted on TEO (it's in history).
It's a good read.

I had written a big post supporting Aaron, but instead decided to back away slowly.

The whole idea that "EVERYONE MUST INSTANTLY BECOME RATIONAL!" is poisonous there.

Guess what guys, you're perpetuating the issues that are just going to lead to further radicalisation, no matter how reasonable and liberal you think you are.

The lack of any empathy or compassion is just...its soul sucking. There are some very intelligent posters but its like trying to talk to Rainman.

adr wrote:at least svu had some decent stories though
I only saw one episode of SVU. In it, the cops systematically ruined this guy's life by very publicly accusing him of raping multiple underage girls based largely on the say-so of one of his students (the guy was a teacher). They arrest him in the middle of a football game or something at the school specifically because a lot of parents would be there to see it, get the guy fired (and, since he was a teacher, pretty much guaranteeing that he'd never hold another job again), come close to destroying his marriage, and effectively get him driven out of town. Then it's revealed that the girl was raped by another student, and that she was pressured into accusing the teacher by her mom (which is broadcast pretty early when the mom tries to prevent the cops from questioning her daughter without her present).

Though I guess you can't accuse a plotline that can be summed up as "asshole cops ruin the life of someone they assume is guilty of something" of being unrealistic. :v

"Your mistaking me for someone who even likes religion in the slightest. I had enough religion shoved down my throat growing up poor in the South. People are free to believe what they wish, however, start pushing it on people as these yahoos are doing and expect retaliation. Religion is not an excuse to abandon ones own morals.

Behind every uprising of the poor there is a rich backer paying for his own 'privileges.'"

it depends on whether they actually manage to get protests and death threats, but it sure looks like they're getting kinda smug about islam when it's been about twenty years since french catholics firebombed a showing of the last temptation of christ and hindus in nepal have made death threats against a guy for painting pictures of hindu deities in superhero costumes just this year

so have to wait and see i guess

they should have made a series of sexualised photos depicting jesus in the company of homosexual and trans people

and held an exhibition somewhere in arkansas or something

put in a photo of jesus working at an abortion clinic too

i'm sure the reaction would be as calm and reasoned as it was when they did that in sweden (well not the abortion thing)

ps death threats were received, photos destroyed, papal audiences cancelled

as always most of the angry people had not seen the blasphemous material but were told how outraged they ought to be

There are still places in the UK where it is banned from cinemas.
