Considering they got blown up, was it really overacting ???

I ask because I don't remember ST3 well enough to fully place those pics in proper context. I just remember "Lucky shot sir!" and the Oberth class being the subject of many jokes thereafter.

I had an Oberth class for my science alt in STO and it rocked

And the helmsman in the above sequence was reacting to the news that the casket of Capt. Spock(deceased) had been found

Oh, was that THAT moment

Yeah okay

Maybe I'm a bit jaded from years of watching Trek, whereas Lt Mori's probably seen two years worth of celestial navigation and no magic.

Man ST3 was so underrated. It's actually one of the few Star Trek movies where part of the action takes place on a strange and alien world. It has some of the best scenes in the entire TOS run, it has some of the best lines ('How many fingers am I holding up Bones?' '...That's not very funny, Jim.' and 'That green-blooded sonuvabitch! It's his revenge for all those arguments he lost.'), and the juxtaposition of the final act with WoK's is just beautiful (the whole needs of the many thing vs the few, which Kirk reverses so that he can save Spock; Trek's version of the three musketeers mantra of all for one and one for all). It's villain was actually competent, and played marvelously well by Christopher Lloyd. I also liked Robin Curtis who replaced Saavick, it's a shame she never came back after Star Trek IV.

Plus it introduced Spacedock, the Excelsior, the Klingon Bird-of-prey (to this day it is one of my favourite spaceships in all of scifi), and the Oberth and merchantman (these are just nice to have).

So, the new teaser trailer's out.
My guess? It's Gary Mitchell, presumed lost on an alien world, and then returning to rule over the Federation as a god.

I saw it as something like "you abandoned me to die, now I'm back to take it out on everyone"

Whatever it'll be, I'm really happy they got Cumberbatch. He's an excellent actor.

I don't really care who he plays, I just want a quality written story.

Yeah, for a lot of those reasons I like The Search For Spock as well and it is roughly comparable to The Voyage Home. I found Christopher Lloyd's Commander Kruge an entertaining antagonist and he was a villain with a more a realistic, less crazy motive than Khan's operatic vendetta.

Khan's a flamboyant guy though, a "prince"

Kruge is the commander of a scout.

I love 3. It's probably my third favorite of the films, maybe even tied with 2 for second. 6 will probably always be my favorite, simply because - unlike any of the other TMP films - I can remember seeing it in the theater on opening night.

There was a 9 minute preview of Into Darkness before the Hobbit. I can't see it over here (fuck you cinemas) but the description sounds good. It's nice they're doing an actual alien planet again.
