isn't that the oxford system

you just show up to the final and if you pass good on you

lectures happen but aren't a thing you are required to attend

that will depend on how the professor feels about attendance really

i like it because 2/3 of the class will decide they are experts and won't go to class, then fail the test in the whiniest display you will ever see

As we all know, college is for the parties and not the studying thing. :fukyu:

But then I think college as a "you must go straight from high school or fail at life" kind of thing is kinda dumb but whatevs.
adr wrote:1) individual classes are open to anyone who seriously wants to attend. you don't have to enroll in an entire program if you are only interested in a handful of classes or don't actually care about the degree
Isn't that more or less community colleges?

I mean I know you have to "apply" but they're not exactly selective in admissions.

i was going to say college is where a lot of people learn how to be adults nowadays

but most of the people i know that have stayed in are clearly sheltered at best

a bunch have become bronies that talk about writing "clopfics"

oh god

university is great for learning more about yourself and the world and other people

but you can turn it into a small cage if you don't push yourself

so i just got an email back from this dude

with a very nice pdf which explains that the prerequisite isn't a prerequisite anymore! (even though it says it is on the 2013 website WHATEVER). But we're still going to get an appointment to hammer it out.

and that's the end of that chapter

man in my first year of uni was super stressful i remember basically breaking down a few times and it was because i wasn't allowing much margin for failure

and this past year i've been chillaxing a bit, i've got a whole host of friends with or associated with the potter club, going to lots of parties, i'm sort of seeing this lady

it's all very nice to explore this side of myself but my grades have also been slowly dropping in this time

so the trick this year is to find the good balance

i dunno about your school but in my experience, the calendar that applies to you is the one that was issued the year of your admission

so your course requirements and so on are based on that

while it may say something different in 2013, it doesn't always apply to you

so i went through part of chartered accountant recruiting in my last year

relevant story:

KPMG, one of the biggest accounting firms in the world, selected all their interview candidates based on their GPA

and then hated all of them in the interviews because they were fucking boring and not even real people

Deloitte picked their interviewees based on personality (as their recruiters viewed it at the various social networking events held earlier in the process). They mostly got hired.

Big part of developing personality and displaying it for potential employers is your extra-curriculars. Nobody worth working for will give a fuck if you have a GPA a full point lower than Mr. 4.0 if you have a personality, ability to function socially, and a list of accomplishments and experiences.

Over a thousand dollars in bills and at least four months of suicidal depression on my end could've been avoided had someone close to me just owned up and made a decision instead of refusing to do so until it didn't matter anymore.

I'm not really sure what to feel about this except that I'm still too in shock to feel angry or anything.

Our greatest enemy is ourselves, right?

I only used to leave the house for food or to pick up/drop off the kids, because I was worried about people. What they would think, what they would say, what they would too. Eventually I figured out that I had created a fictitious threat to keep myself isolated.

yes, it's all imaginary, sometimes it seems so fucking powerful, so fucking true, you feel it, and you think the people look at you and you think what they think

but its all fiction, its all imaginary, products of a mind that's just experiencing a low point

its not true, none of it is

never listen to it

don't ever

Things can seem insurmountable, but you'd be surprised at just how you can get through even the toughest shit.

So how is it everyone hates on Mickey D's for being unhealthy, crappy tasting food, etc.

And yet no matter where I go it seems their drive through lanes always wrap around the building? :psyduck:

I have this handy warning system that tells me I'm getting a bit too stressed. I don't get cranky or sick or panicky; I have a little cry. Not sure how that happened but there you go.

Not that I have anything to be stressed about, what with exams and moving to the other side of the planet for a job I don't feel 100% qualified for and the visa getting delayed and having to find a new place to live when I come back.

No sir, no stress factors at all there.

I probably doesn't help that I tried watching Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror and had to give up halfway through episode 2 because I felt like curling up into a little ball to keep the big bad world out.

For the same reason that people in the US keep voting R/D. There are alternatives, but they're hard.
