Personally I see inversion of sex-identification as something distinct from gender identification indicating a bit of brain wiring was left oriented toward biological motherhood; I'd go back in for a third surgery even if it meant lifelong antirejection drugs for a womb and ovaries. However, there's still certainly a degree of interconnectedness with "transgenderism", and both are equally valid. There are a lot of desperate people trying to prove their disorder as if society will accept them better for it (as opposed to TEO, which actually will because science is all that matters, so I went to some trouble there), but as a practical matter it's not very important what the cause is. As for the end result, well, eh, the first week was miserable but the recovery was fine after that.timmy wrote:^HOW IT ISmagic princess wrote:A social presentation which may or may not have much to do depending on how biologically determinist or not you are with why some people pay twenty thousand dollars to end up catheterized in a Thai hospital bed for a week.Zablorg wrote:man what even is a gender

After some of the more stressful traveling of my life I am finally in LaGuardia heading out to California.
Have I mentioned here that I fucking love my job? Because I fucking love my job.

fortunately one of my good friends ended up a real star of the event and got like sixty million likes for smoking out potential predators and then informing ubc of them
so everything worked out in the end

Any idea what's likely to come of it? I'm kinda curious since I'm applying to UBC for this fall.Nietzslime wrote: fortunately one of my good friends ended up a real star of the event and got like sixty million likes for smoking out potential predators and then informing ubc of them

probably a few more people will show up at the 'why ubc needs feminism' event
fewer people will go to this one
and a few assholes will be put on academic probation or something for making rape threats

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance
I worked the Chinese New Year banquet last night.
Two hundred and forty guests.
Fourteen courses.
TWO kitchenhands.
Why only two, you ask. Because the club only wanted to pay for two kitchenhands to be in the functions area. Of course, one was a contractor brought in to help me. But this meant I had to spend time helping him work the substandard machinery. I was at the back of the dishwashing conveyor belt, putting plates back where they belong, and giving them back to the first guy when they weren't washed adequately by the machine.
It just got worse once stuff started coming in. The way the wait staff are supposed to deliver plates is to put food scraps in a bucket on the bench, cutlery into a little tub next to it, and then put the plate down. Simple. It's all right there. We'd outsourced cooking this to a catering company, and evidently they brought their own waiters. Despite multiple (increasingly firm) explanations, they just kept leaving trolleys full of plates in front of the bench, clogging floor space, tying up trolleys, and generally being annoying.
So therein lies the dilemma, I can't pick up the dishes and clear those trolleys, no matter how much I move. A manager comes over and says "Mike, you need to be at the back of the machine, so we can put more stuff on the bench." I point out (firmly) that someone needs to be at the front, as people are just dumping it. As a result, we pulled a guy away from another kitchen to help just do that.
As a result, I spent my five hour shift dealing with people who had largely no idea what was happening. Best part? When someone left a white container on a nearly white floor. I tripped on it and nearly went head into a metal food processor.
I went through a lot for my $19 an hour. *grumble*

On the bright side you can now put down "management experience" on your resume.

Every time I come to Berkeley it is an absolute fucking disaster. Aside from the magnificent weather and the kids everything that can go wrong pretty much has.
