The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Well, on the other hand, after he changed the constitution so that he could get re-elected, he did get re-elected with a score of around 60% I believe. And AFAIK no frauds were reported by the international observers. So, you know, Democracy... only good when the guy is on our side, right ?

Nonsense. We'll just have to assign a weight to everything and see if the sum is positive or negative.

I was referencing the """Realpolitik""" school of thought regarding International Relations, for which International Relations is a Zero-Sum Game.
If there is a Winner, there must be a Loser. Win-Win does not, cannot exist.
At least in these guys' worldview.

Well, that's even sillier than I thought it was.
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Talking of that, it's been a long time since Gands did a "Tonight on HPCA" thing.
Are you still watching the place or did you throw it all away ? I know I've never been able to read the quotes you copy pasted.

Well there have apparently been some shenanigans about locking up opposition party members. Don't know if that'd be before after that election however.Oxymoron wrote:Well, on the other hand, after he changed the constitution so that he could get re-elected, he did get re-elected with a score of around 60% I believe. But yeah, whether he's a good leader who did some shady things to stay in power but as a whole did well by his citizens or if he was an evil dictator who quashed dissent and was in it for the power and the "good" he did was window dressing or whatever...why celebrate his death?
I mean depending on where you fall on the question of whether he was "good" or "bad" you could say maybe you're happy he's no longer running things and hope it gets better for VZ now. But none of that means you have to start planning a dance party on his grave or whatever.

Saying it's always wrong to be pleased about the deaths of awful people will lead you to some pretty silly situations.
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Well I could play the card on that one, I guess.
I guess I would tend toward caution in actually celebrating somebody's death over not. Sure there are some really evil fuckers who have existed that the world is most certainly better off without. Most of the time though I see people basing it largely on whether they agreed with this suitably famous person's politics and personal beliefs.
Well that and the insanity of the crying mobs puring grief over the death of Steve Jobs as if their Lord and Savior had just passed from the mortal plane. That's just the obligatory NT smug comment, though.

"ONE MAN DIED FOR ALL"
Who is this man?
How does his death help us?
Why is it important that we remember him?
You are invited to consider answers from the Bible on Tuesday, March 26, 2013
Jesus Christ is widely recognized as the greatest man who ever lived. Yet, he surrendered his life for us 1,980 years ago. Concerning his death, the apostle Paul wrote: "One man died for us all." The apostle John observed: "The blood of Jesus ... cleanses us from all sin." (2 Corinthians 5:14; 1 John 1;7) Exactly what do these statements mean? Why do we need cleansing? How can the death of one man so long ago be of any benefit to us today?
The anniversary of Jesus' death falls on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, after sundown. Jehovah's Witnesses invite you to meet with them on that date to examine what makes Jesus -- and his sacrifice -- so vitally important.
This event will take place at the time and location shown below.

You are also invited to a special Bible talk entitled "Does Death End It All?"

RE celebrating people's death :
Recent example : people celebrating in the streets upon learning the new of Oussema Bin Laden's death.
USA ! USA ! USA !...

I found that distasteful. I also couldn't blame them, considering his status as a mass murderer.
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Yeah...
What I find funny from what little I read of the thread over there (only up to Stas' post in the first page), is that they seem to treat him as if he was somehow Kim Jong-Il or something like that.

Same with Hollande.
Or more precisely, I'd take Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is a proto-Chavez.

Does Facebook still have that option?
I always loved it when I saw It's Complicated with [Insert Name]. Because [Insert Name] had to approve that blurb saying their relationship is "complicated" for all their friends (and complicated other's friends) to see.
Why? That's like broadcasting your angst and oh wait now I get it...

The place slowed down a lot when they banned the guy who screamed "Ragheads!" at every turn. But he was just unbanned, so I should have one up soon.Oxymoron wrote:Talking of that, it's been a long time since Gands did a "Tonight on HPCA" thing.

That Senior Chief guy?
I would actually have given them props if he was permbanned for going off on an Admin like that, with his "below your paygrade" bullshit as if only Saint Stuart of Slade had any authority over him.
Oh well, so much for that.
