I feel this way about the trend in the last few years since decent DSLRs became more affordable(or at least, desirable enough to justify spending more than you did on your first car) where people buy one, play with it for a bit, then start a facebook page called (Your Name Here) Photography or somesuch. Everybody and their dog.

Alas no, my friend was going to try and pick me up in one but he couldn't. Instead I just had to be in the passenger seat while he hooned around in a Porsche.

Those are the only "supercar" I see now. Used to be I'd see a Lambo, a Ferrari or the odd Mazeratti, like one every few years. All I've seen for the last 15 years are Porsche's.

Adding to the jealous choir RE: Tesla factory, their sedan is one seriously sexy piece of kit.

My neighbour across the street has a wealthy sister who occasionally visits in her Aston Martin DB9. Always funny seeing it parked between a Fiat and my vaguely rusty old Volkswagen.

It would be cool if the Tesla had a little on-board gasoline electrical generator, for the occasions where you get past the limits of the battery and you don't have the time to wait for an hour or two to recharge the battery.

It's the Chevrolet Volt I think which has that feature. Too bad it costs so much. If they sold models in the €8000 price range I could almost justify the expense to myself.


Edit : the Tesla website tell me that I would have to pay almost €80,000 for a model S with the options I want.

Karma's pretty much bankrupt. A shame, cause the car is by all accounts pretty good (and looks spectacular), but that story seems over.

It's the Chevrolet Volt I think which has that feature.

I drove one of those last year (well, the rebadged Opel Ampera version). It's nice. Bit pricey, bit heavy, but the electric acceleration is really fun and the cockpit is SF-y.

Have you looked at the Zoë? No gasoline generator, but I think it's pretty much the cheapest mainstream electric car out there right now.

Yeah, I looked at the Zoe. It's still too pricey I think, and the autonomy of less than 250 km with no backup generator is a deal breaker for me.

As long as batteries will have less than 750km of autonomy on a single charge, I'll be whining for backup generators. I want to be able to go to vacations with the same car I use for my everyday travels (edit : note that living in a place with good public transportation systems I use everyday, I would only use my cars for occasions where I would do more than 50-60 kilometers, or to carry loads)

The ideal solution would be hydrogen fuel cell cars.

Twizy : Too small, not enough range, not enough value-per-euro-spent.

I see supercars all the goddamn time. Lots of Porcsches and Maseratis. And a suprisingly high number of Aston Martins, Ferraris and Lambos.

Melbourne is full of rich egomaniacs though.

@ Bounty : man I don't even want to think about the insurance costs I'd have to pay for such a setup, and the headache of trying to park two cars for a single person in the city.
