The last panel is the comic falling apart as the actual artist and writer combo reel from their character avatars' insults hitting too close to homeLosonti Tokash wrote:basically don't get today's, so...uh

So the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past looks good and has me ready to see it. Yeah yeah yeah, Wolverine as the main character, blah-de-blah-blah. I don't actually hold that against anything. WatXM was pretty boss, after all, and if that wasn't Wolverine Publicity I don't know what is.

When you look at a a tape, and it has the "Be Kind, Rewind" sticker on it, there's something deeply moving about that. It's such a call to arms, and a suggestion or an imperative about the way to live your life. To be kind, and rewind. Go back, and hang on to those things which are important to you, and not let them disappear, and not let other people take them away from you. But find what's important, and preserve that, and help it to endure. - Tommy Swenson.

It's also funny when these kind of people talk about "religion" as if it's all like Christianity.
"How is religion not child abuse? You're telling kids that they'll suffer for all eternity if they don't worship your imaginary friend."
Cause, you know, all religion does that.
Guess there's no reason to bother actually knowing the vast branch of human culture you condemn in anything but the most parochial ethnocentric terms.

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
that's also only one part of christianity
I mean religion's never been my thing, but I just can't imagine say Anglicans really emphasising the 'if you wank you'll go to hell etc.' stuff
and those (and liberal Catholics) are the Christians I come into contact with most often, so all this rabid anti-christian nonsense seems like a load of hyperventilating shittery to me

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
one of the reasons i've been talking to the mormon missionaries in such depth over the last several months is to get that other side of religion after being in with internet atheists for a while and just non-religious otherwise
obviously talking to like 5 individual people from one particular church cannot be generalized to them all, but nevertheless i think it has been actually pretty interesting and instructive to see it for myself, hear the other perspectives and see just what kinds of things they do day to day, how they are organized, and so on.
though the lds church supported prop hate and i talked to the guys about that yesterday and they didn't have much of an answer at all; they were pretty eager to change the subject and just suggested i read the church website about their position. usually we can talk about things in some detail but all they had to say here was check out the website and to thank me for sharing my perspective on it with them.
i wonder if they didn't go into it because they don't want to get too politically divisive while still shooting for a conversion, or if it is because these individual people had different personal feelings than official church policy. a lot of folks nowadays are ok with gay marriage, including young mormons.
anywho, so yeah there's obviously the negative things religion/churches can do and does do, but perhaps equally obviously, there's a lot more to it too that isn't so easy to see without broadening the conversation a lil

People being so paranoiac about paedophiles in the UK can, in some extreme and tragic cases, lead to a misunderstood and innocent man getting killed by chav vigilantes. And brain donor chavs made Halloween an excuse for attacking people in their homes a few years back.evilsoup wrote:fortunately the pedo scare seems to have killed off trick or treating over here

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
Idk lots of people who believe in an afterlife lose loved ones and get hit hard by it and don't kill themselves to join them, seems to me there might have been deeper issues at play here; take away the religion and we might have just gotten a different stated reason for the suicide.
Anyway, I'm less bothered by the suggestion as by the crass appropriativenes. I wouldn't have minded so much if I actually had the feeling they particularly gave a shit about the girl, instead of just being interested in appropriating her as a propaganda piece for their own ideology.
