Re: videojuegos
I actually genuinely liked Wrath of the Lich King, and some of the stuff is oversimplified or slightly exaggerated, but a lot of the World of Warcraft story makes absolutely no sense if you think about it for any length of time.

that was a hilarious write-up

I realize that I'm probably pretty late to this party here
but I'm kind of really mad that the horde and the alliance are fighting again

MMOs thrive on conflict
You can't have everyone be friends, that just wouldn't make sense

Re: videojuegos
In retrospect, I think it would have been absolutely amazing if Blizzard had the guts to end Wrath of the Lich King with "LOL nope you're all dead" and have subsequent expansion packs combine the Alliance and Horde players into a single Scourge faction with quests and raids depicting them overrunning and blighting their former homes.
It probably would have been the death knell of the game, but it would have been glorious.

It would also make the PVPers cry.Stofsk wrote:MMOs thrive on conflict

No more battlegrounds! No possibility of territory control! Their poor e-peens, why won't you think of the e-peens?
Re: videojuegos
PVP, when done right, is fucking awesome though.
There is no feeling quite like being part of a team where everyone has a role and knows how to do that role really well and everyone works together to beat the shit out of the opposing team.
Games like STO unfortunately have terrible PVP.

Re: videojuegos
Well to each their own. Still I sometimes feel like the whole "faction conflict" thing gets kept in mainly as an excuse for PvP. Even when the story they're telling should have moved on from that ages ago. Maybe there are other reasons to keep it around but for me it feels like an artificial constraint.
I mean in WoW I'm not sure how you'd justify the battlegrounds without the whole Alliance vs Horde thing. At least in STO they can excuse it as joint UFP/KDF exercises or whatever. It would require probably killing the open PvP of Kerrat but I don't see that as a big loss really.

Re: videojuegos
I stopped playing WoW when a horde dude kept killing me at the same spot.
Re: videojuegos
Kerrat is an example of shit PVP design. It makes zero sense (both Klinks and Feds should be working together against the borg), and it's almost always unbalanced (you either have roving bands of BoP pilots under battlecloak, or 1 or 2 Klinks who get wtfpwned in 5 seconds because the Feds are all together in a group). The only reason to do Kerrat is for the loot drops, as it's one of the few spots where purple Mk XII gear can be rewarded IIRC (unless they 'fixed' that).RogueIce wrote:I mean in WoW I'm not sure how you'd justify the battlegrounds without the whole Alliance vs Horde thing. Plus the biggest problem is that in STO, damage is overemphasised. Tanking is less important (but still important IMO, it's just that everyone can tank to some degree EDIT Of course, a cruiser with extend shields 3 is the best tanking support ability in the game), and CC and debuffing isn't as important as simply killing the enemy, which makes science ships the weakest type of ship for PVP (Science captains though are up there with tacs though - subnuc beam was made for PVP). Having said that, an energy drain build is probably the most effective science build atm, so I dunno. One-on-one, I'd put money on a properly kitted sci ship with energy drain against anything other than an all-cannon escort. Even an aux2batt BFAW cruiser should fall victim, but that's if subnuc's involved.
I kinda want to try my hand at PVP and see how fucked it is, because I haven't done it in a long time.

Re: videojuegos
I won't lie that WoW gave me some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had, but I don't think I could go back to it or even another mmorpg. Though Guild Wars 2 looks cool. Anyone here play it?
Re: videojuegos
I will say, one thing I love about STO is that you're never forced into a PvP zone. Unlike in TOR where, even on a PvE server I still routinely got flagged for PvP on Tatooine because I would do Heroics with people so flagged, and any time I healed them (or even did an AOE against mobs but they ran in the middle of it) I'd be flagged and have to go run into a cantina for five minutes for it to go away.Stofsk wrote:Kerrat is an example of shit PVP design. That was bullshit and one of many reasons I quit that game. I'm not sure how WoW does it with their contested zones...can you still get flagged for it even on PvE servers? Because if you have to quest through there, which you do, it's bullshit. I just want to get through story content without getting ganked by bored high-levels repeatedly. This should not be an issue on PvE servers and yet, oddly, it is.

Re: videojuegos
Ugh. Picked up Ghosts yesterday and I guess i'm really bad at CoD multiplayer. Like horrendously bad.
At least the campaign was fun though. They should've gone further with the futuristic elements though, like full fledged rayguns and starship boarding sequences and stuff. Modern and near-modern is played out. If they want to revitalize the series like they did with CoD 4 then they need to pick a new setting.

Alright, i'll bite on this one. I get the racism accusation, CoD has been using faceless brown people as enemies since 4, but Fascism? There's no indication given that you're fighting for some kind of dictatorship.F.J. Re: videojuegos
yet another example of how wonderful Steam is:
The original F.E.A.R. now takes up 17 gigs of hard drive space. Why? Because it automatically installs the expansion packs Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate with the game and just unlocks them later. So if you don't buy the expansions, you have 10 gigs of crap sitting on your HD that you have no access to.
