Gold bugs have to be some of the dumbest twats you'll see.

I remember one of them saying that gold was the only real form of money and everything else was man made. (Because money's apparently not a man made concept.)

And apparently because it's difficult to produce, it's valuable, which is kind of hilarious.

I feel sorry for you having to deal with that guy in the comments, man.
I'm not really trying to convince him in particular, but assistance is always appreciated. Just remember to be nice. :)

Its always gold or silver, which unless your a jeweller is best stuck in a sock and used as a sap.

Gold does[/i[ have practical value... you can always trade it to other people for the other shit you want.

Economics is funny in that perceptions shape reality.

Yeah, I understand that. It just seems the stuff I listed would be far easier to barter with.

lol carinthium in the aussie thread is wonderful

his sig is a reference to a thread where he attempted to defend tea party jesus as a legitimate interpretation of the bible

judging from his hate for catholics, my guess is that he's the world's second most obnoxious atheist

recent threads have shown me that there really is better discussion of drama, games, music, and even politics in testing than elsewhere

this is largely due to the absence of certain posters from testing

stuart is some sort of egoistical gnostic anyhow- worshiping his own self

but if we take him as an atheist, i still would have to put him in at second compared to internet comedian the amazing atheist
not for the faint of heart, turn down your volume before clicking

in fact, you probably shouldn't even bother clicking that

religiously, not sexually/emotionally

narcissists don't necessarily think of themselves as god

Depends on how deep the crash is, doesn't it? Gold would have done you just fine in Weimar Germany. Even as the Western Roman Empire was disintegrating, gold was still a useful medium as exchange; they've dug assloads of it out of sub-Roman British burial sites. If civilization ever unspools so far that gold is useless, you're talking some real apocalyptic shit. There's no reason for the goldbugs to prepare for that, because most of them are probably too old and fat to run away from the cannibal hordes.

What goldbugs really mean when they say "gold is the only real money" is that the gold standard prevents inflation. Which is true, barring unusual circumstances like conquering an entire continent full of virgin gold mines (o hai 16th century Spain). It's just that inflation isn't the worst thing in the world, and a gold standard really cripples a country's ability to maneuver in difficult economic times (kinda like how the poor indebted European economies can't inflate their way out of debt because they're stuck with a relatively inflexible and expensive currency in the Euro).

Also, I've never met a goldbug who wasn't a dipshit, so there's that, too.

Isn't gold vulnerable to deflation?
