I was aware of this, I felt it was part of the irony
IIRC, the main condition for it to happen is an almost empty tank (so there's lots more petrol vapours to ignite)

Sorry to hear about your friend, terrible way to go

I think deep down Stas Bush is upset that a member of the longstanding bourgeoisie is lamented while the proletariat are tossed aside in favor of the Great American Celebrity Exceptionalism.

I think I stopped listening to anything Stas had to say a few months back when he expressed a desire to see everyone living in an American suburb, I.E. my family, my friends, and pretty much anyone i've ever known, "suffer horribly" for their decadent wasteful lifestyle, so they would all move back into the cities and the petroleum "wasted" on their transportation could be used to make magic plastic that would fix all of the world's problems.

Do you expect better from a dyed in the wool Marxist?

(Actually, I do. But a majority of them suck.)

Is it a bad sign when plugging in something like a USB mouse or headphones, it's actually faster to go to Device Manager and scan for new hardware than wait for the computer to recognize it on its own?

And this isn't like new devices getting installed. I've used them all before. Even plug into the same ports incase that actually matters.

Subject: On being 'cool to sa' the N-word and other slurs
Korto wrote:I don't see "Negro" as a racist slur. It's the proper word. Yes, it's been used to vilify, but so's "homosexual", and, for that matter, "woman".
"Homo" is a slur, "Homosexual" is what you are.
"Nigger" is a slur, "Negro" is what you are.
If you can come up with something else accurate and laconic, maybe it'll be worth considering. Not "Black", as I might wonder if you meant Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or possibly Maori. Not "African", as there's plenty of whites in Africa. "Black African" has too many syllables. And certainly not "African American", as not only is it far too long, but you also risk insulting every negro person in the rest of the world.

how often do you actually, really need to point out what race someone is in everyday conversation
it doesn't seem like using a few extra syllables to do so is a particularly tiresome burden really

But but but
He said "Torres Straight Islander"
I'm pretty sure that has more syllables than "Black African"

but still, even maoists should be able to remember that class is about relation to capital in marxian analysis

funnily enough "negro" has been used to refer to proto-australoid and australoid ethnicities

What about using the term "nigga" to satirize the shitty hip hop culture?

The best term to use is Ni.

As in

On another note, I watched Police Squad during Thanksgiving. That was a show that was cancelled before its time. Wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of that, so long as they keep all of the sight gags, horrible puns, goofy tone, and silly slapstick intact. Imagine an over-the-top parody of the NCIS/CSI-type shows.

It is on the right track, if only because it's actually parody and not just a pile of references.

The smart Marxists are probably the social theorists with the widest and most interesting perspectives I know. It's funny in that I think their myopic analysis that ties everything back to materiality and sees everything as rooted in those struggles probably affords them greater contextual perspective and depth than almost any other theoretical group. It's how they apply these perspectives that often end up being the problem.
