is it weird that i am far more judgemental of people on the internet than people in real life

like i was just reading a post by mr friendly guy and naturally it was stupid and worthless and i abhor him

so like do i self-select for more interesting people in real life or can i just empathize with beings that aren't solely reams of dumb text to me

like, there's a guy on my floor who's constantly loud, obnoxious, and essentially a caricature of a hyperventilating obsessive nerd, and i frankly dislike the man

but i smile politely, whereas if he acted similarly on the internet, i would treat him with a bit more open contempt, i think

By the way, it's odd if speaking one other language is a one dot merit that caps out at three. By WoD rules on how merits work, the linguist Harold Williams by my count must either have 104xp or 2756xp (if Language is a linear merit like other merits instead of a series of separate one dot merits). That's a lot of XP, considering the Prince of New Orleans in nWoD has like 600xp or so. This guy apparently could've max all of his stats and skills and ruled over the world as a god king if he weren't such a language nerd.

also i don't know if anyone pointed this out later in the thread, but they fixed language rules in the wod errata so that it's one dot per language, each as a separate merit, no ridiculous levels or anything

well the rub is the city could have just billed them after the fact

I think that got brought up last time, and it turned out that while the city could bill them, they could never collect if the people refused to pay. And they city itself can't exactly enforce a tax on the county residents, so that could present a bit of a problem.

That said, I actually could imagine city police refusing to respond to non-violent crimes outside of their jurisdiction, especially if the complainants were dumbass freeloading country hicks. That doesn't mean I think it's good, but I think it's entirely plausible for that scenario to occur in the US.

I think there may be jurisdictional issues with that, actually. Where they could make the arrest, but the case would be tossed anyway. Unless there's a pre-existing mutual aid agreement between the two agencies. Which is probably its own issue, but a bit more complicated than "you didn't pay up, freeloaders" would be.

But I'm not sure that 'police fees' would happen in practice. IIRC, if you've got a city or county with no law enforcement of its own, the State Police/Highway Patrol (whatever your state calls them) automatically assume general policing duties for that area. So there's no (official) gap, though of course how many troopers they assign to your area could be an issue... But on paper, you're still covered.

But again, that's IIRC and as with pretty much anything involving US lawe enforcement, can easily vary from state-to-state.
