That's right, Bakustra. While you're making a parody of things and claiming to, Iirc, eat the population of a fictional video game, but Tevar seems rather intent on outright killing you, and others support this to the point where they are willing to break their own moronic laws without blinking...Simon_Jester wrote:Yeah. Dealing with the sociopaths and trolls of SDN would add a whole new dimension to the RAR, to tell the truth.

Oh, yes, and throwing people in prison for a thousand years because they might be disruptive, too. Real workable society they've developed there.Djinnkitty83 wrote:That's right, Bakustra. I can't figure out why they don't just tell you to leave. Don't get me wrong or anything, this is hilarious, but you're obviously deliberately trying to disrupt the game. If I were in that game (and still a mod), I would have just told you to fuck off four posts ago.

Geek social fallacy #1 is my guess. And anyways, I've pretty much said my piece, so I'm done for now. I think I'll move to frowning over my inability to garner replies in other threads.RedImperator wrote:I can't figure out why they don't just tell you to leave. In the end he is just being disruptive, and if it were my game, I would have kicked him. Granted I run games where rules and character-sheets are more just vague guidelines than anything, most conflicts are resolved with, "Well, can my character do this?" "He can try, sure... let's roll a few dice and I'll interpret what they mean," and I've never touched the concept of 'hit-points' from the very start.
I'm making assumptions here, but I'm thinking the fact that not only hasn't he been kicked or ignored, but that people are outright trying to 'win' against him in the game-world, suggests that they're insecure to the point where they're trying to justify the validity of their own world to 'outsiders'. Which is just self-defeating.

I think that it's more that they don't have the gumption to say "get out", because it'd be rude or whatever. So St. Arglider makes passive-aggressive posts about how obviously I have no friends, and Bean plots imaginary revenge, and Tevar writes posts about killing and eating my imaginary self, and Simon_Heinlein_Reference enthusiastically nods his head and goes along with it. None of them have whatever it takes to toss someone for being "disruptive", which makes this even funnier but also kinda pathetic. Which is what the first Geek Social Fallacy is all about.

Kinda. At least in the postcount rewarding department. The one constant about RARs seems to be that postcount/board position (mods, supermods, etc) = achievement and you end up in the top tiers on no other basis.Ohma wrote:that's...quite the involved, awkward postcount rewarding, dragon wish fulfillment/power fantasy roleplay there
I forget, are rars usually like that?
Which I guess, to be fair, if you're so set on having those "tiers" to begin with, is probably the easiest/fairest way to do it. But that hardly justified the tiers in the first place. But then I remember in stuff like "SDN in the Middle Ages" or whatever, when the Staff and Senate were given de facto leadership, plenty of people were all "I'd tell 'em to go fuck themselves and do my own thing" because seriously, I doubt 95% of the staff and then-Senate had the qualities to actually be good leaders in such a scenario. And that's probably being overly generous.
TBH, I don't think a majority of the board population itself would necessarily hold such qualities, and I doubt you'd ever see such wide-scale cooperation anyway. Though maybe it might happen, if most theories hold true that - in real life at least - most of the hyperaggressive sorts would be a bunch of passive 'go along with the crowd' types. But I still don't see it ending well.
At least not on the full scale. Certain subsets of the board would likely get their shit together in such a scenario, but I just don't see SDN as a whole doing very well.
Honestly, most webforums would be hard pressed, unless they're A) fairly small and/or B) fairly focused. I'm sure some small-ish web community based around semi-accurate medieval re-enactment would perform decently in a "____ Board Sent to the Middle Ages" assuming they're not full of drama and have adequete prep-time to research the local conditions of whatever region and era they're off to.

I think Crossroads described it perfectly, it's a fucking miniature model UN. A pointless unproductive activity where everyone sits around and pretends they own guns and tanks, and then shout down anyone who tries to make it fun.
The only winning move is not to play.

Dragon Stalin, back from the dead! With an army of Bruce Lee homonculi!
Also, I'm sad there are so few threads of interest right now on TEO. Except for waiting for Rogue to pop back up there's almost nothing I actively want to post in over there.

Re: Godammed SDN
That's the problem I noticed in the RP stuff I did and remember reading. Basically over half the people would be playing out some power fantasy faction that was godawful boring because they wanted to prove how super doctrinaire they were and throwing a fit any time someone did something interesting that might possibly prevent them from "winning" the game (how someone could actually win a game that was basically a forum MUD I don't know). Like, my contributions weren't well written er anyfin' but shit I was at least trying to make things happen and not just form the 83rd clone alliance of humanistic-utilitarian-humans alliance.Djinnkitty83 wrote:I'm making assumptions here, but I'm thinking the fact that not only hasn't he been kicked or ignored, but that people are outright trying to 'win' against him in the game-world, suggests that they're insecure to the point where they're trying to justify the validity of their own world to 'outsiders'.
