we never did anything like 'model un' in high school
Re: Godammed SDN
Same here. Though we did a mock trial for alcohol in elementary school and I used a kid whose dad beat him as an example for why it was evil (I was prosecutor). I lost though because no one liked that kid plus drinking is cool.uraniun235 wrote:we never did anything like 'model un' in high school

we did mock trials and i managed to successfully convince twelve highschoolers not to award damages to the families of people who died on the titanic
i then went on to hang a jury later and be vindicated by the teacher

i don't know what this actually means but i'm choosing to interpret it as you were such a good prosecutor you managed to get the jury executed along with the accusedB-A-K-U-S-T-R-A wrote:i then went on to hang a jury later and be vindicated by the teacher

Re: Godammed SDN
Yes. Plaintiff emphasized that. But at the time, you were only required to have 16 lifeboats, while the Titanic had 20 with room to expand up to 64 as the law changed to account for ships quadrupling in volume. And I played that up as well as the random nature of the disaster in order to win sympathy. It's me, I'm a douchebag defense attorney, etc.Flagg wrote:They... God, I wish! But no, a hung jury is one that fails to return a verdict. The fake law that we were using required an unanimous verdict, and I refused to go along with a verdict of guilty, having seen Twelve Angry Men previously, so...Manus Dei wrote:i don't know what this actually means but i'm choosing to interpret it as you were such a good prosecutor you managed to get the jury executed along with the accusedB-A-K-U-S-T-R-A wrote:i then went on to hang a jury later and be vindicated by the teacher

I did a jury nullification when we were prosecuting cocaine.

Closest thing we did to a model UN was plan an excursion to an unexplored island in the south pacific. I volunteered the services of my fictional air freight company pro bono, had an advanced team dropped in a week in advance to hand-clear a strip for a C-130. The teacher approved this.

Re: Godammed SDN
Years ago in junior high school I participated in a mock trial. Not as a lawyer, but as the defendant.
The case was my character being accused of organizing and running a paramilitary organization.
Since the case didn't involve anyone getting killed or injured, my defense revolved around the right to peacefully assemble. With guns. :
For added lols, since I live near a naval base (and a JAG school on top of that), the mock trial was held on base as a military tribunal. With three naval justices presiding and everything.
Fairly prophetic, thinking back on it. :
P.S. my side won the case

Re: Godammed SDN
Is it illegal in Canada?
Re: Godammed SDN
I'm not sure, but probably; the basic copyright law is pretty common among the English speaking world.
The SDN rule is to copy it, in full, for the specific purpose of letting a mass of people bypass the original producer, which is pretty much the core thing copyright seeks to fight.
