Intellectual crucible.
linky
. It is the standard method for most psychological studies of things like social cognition when you are not trying to look at something that is not age related. Why? Because it is the best representation of the rest of the population you will be able to get per unit effort. You dont have to call hundreds or even thousands of random phone numbers and get people to come in for a study with no compensation.
Is this genius describing a cheap date or good data?

A new University of British Columbia study says that an overreliance on research subjects from the U.S. and other Western nations can produce false claims about human psychology and behavior because their psychological tendencies are highly unusual compared to the global population.
...
“The foundations of human psychology and behavior have been built almost exclusively on research conducted on subjects from WEIRD societies,” says UBC Psychology and Economics Prof. Joe Henrich, who led the study with UBC co-authors Prof. Steven Heine and Prof. Ara Norenzayan. “While students from Western nations are a convenient, low-cost data pool, our findings suggest that they are also among the least representative populations one could find for generalizing about humans.”

Man Broomie is hilarious when she's trying to talk about China.

OMG the peasants are revolting! The army will crush them under the treads of their freedom tanks!

And someone points out that T Square happened like 20 years ago and they usually don't handle shit like and she throws another wobbler.

I remember that time I arrived in China without a visa or entry permission and was imprisoned in a labour camp for ten years as a spy.

Wait, no. They asked a few questions then let me through customs. In an airport filled with ads for Breitling watches and Jags.

Communist and oppressive I say.

didn't she once maintain that china was literally incapable of producing anything of quality, because the low-price tools at her hardware store broke easily?

i should say i'm surprised at how quickly and easily the people in the secular morality thread in slam collapsed into non sequiturs and effective admissions that their secular moralities aren't really moral in any sense of the word just from me posing the simplest question i could dash off without effort

but i'm not

Morality is something I wish I understood on an intellectual level rather then "can i live with myself at the end of the day?"

Any good books out there that i can understand without going to uni?

then you're a more honest person than most

well i've been pretentious my whole life so i can't really say

i'm partial to albert camus, and while he's simpler and more direct than a lot of philosophers

and he also wrote novels and short stories that were meant to get at his ideas

i imagine he'd still be pretty dry and opaque unless you're accustomed to the academic style

on a semi-related note

when i saw this book in a chapters i found it inexplicably hilarious

possibly because of the juxtaposition of the friendly un-intimidating design of these books and a back cover talking about how god is dead and we are alone is amazing

but it was written by respectable people so it might actually be decent

understanding most philosophy is more about having teachers who already understand it boil it down into plain language than it is about close reading of the texts themselves, i find

That's true of most subjects outside the day-to-day

A good teacher makes anything easy
An opaque book Ivan make anything hard

Edit- I don't care about morality as an intellectual exercise right
Unlike the sdn people who don't care this means I dot make ignorant posts about it :v

Yes, her beauty gets Aladdin's attention. Welcome to Human Sexuality 101; Males. At least it was the beauty of her face, and not her tits and ass that did it.
uh at least it wasn't the tits welcome to SCIENCE! buddies
Sure, she probably falls for his looks somewhat (welcome to Human Sexuality 102: Females), but his actions also get her attention. (Saving her from being maimed even though he didn't have to, and using the claim of sister and not wife)
uhhhhh didn't have to that's nice of him
Yeah, she jumps at the chance to go for 'a ride' with him, but come on, ITS A FLYING CARPET.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh actually it's because she realises it's aladdin and not because she is so hot for cars she cannot contain herself (human sexuality 404: wimmin like cars as displays of power and resource acquisition)
She refuses to marry Jafar, and asks her father 'What's wrong with you?'. Questioning the Sultan like that could get you killed ya know.
if only the sultan wasn't a powerless idiot maybe her choices could have actual consequences???
