i had to clean up my sister's mess the other night and now my grandmother was throwing up before she got to the washroom

as long as you don't have any significant debts your credit score might still be high enough

my credit is pretty horrible but as long as other factors are in your favor (a steady job with enough money to cover the rent, no evictions) they'll probably overlook it

With a little luck, you can find a landlord who won't do the annoying credit check at all. Most the places I looked at wanted to do them (and wanted ME to pay for it! Fuck that.) but the one I ended up with just wanted a signature, references, and first/last month rent and the security deposit.

My parents never did them either. Hell, they never even paid security deposits; the old man just talked to the owner and set up a trade of labor instead.


I'd just say shop around. If you can deal with the owner directly you can probably talk your way into something.

if a landlord is deciding between me and someone else with a good credit score, it'll probably be them

my friend has been asking me to room with her starting in a few months, and her parents will be the landlords. the rent will be cheap and they know me, so i can do that for a year while i build up some credit. i'd rather move to philadelphia, and even the nice neighborhoods are mostly in my price range

In my complex, they reserve the right to do a credit check, but they never did one.

They approved me same day on stated employment in 2008. Of course, being a worthless unionized public employee, any time humans are in the loop, I usually get the benefit of the doubt.

Since then, I've built a pretty good credit score.

Protip: make sure your first card is no-fee. I screwed up on that, and I can't close it now.

My partner and I are looking to buy a place and our financial planner, when asked about how we should develop credit history in Australia just scoffed and said save just show we can save $2000-3000 a month for a few months and there be no drama

i wonder what my credit score is

i don't want to pay the money to find out though

How do thy measure your risk of default

there's so many bizarre rules associated with credit scores that i can barely even explain it

so having more credit available is a good thing
but having a lot of accounts open is a bad thing

paying off your accounts each month is a good thing
electing to not use your cards in a month is a bad thing

paying off big balances each month is a good thing
but having high balances at any point in teh month is a bad thing



it kinda makes sense but its bizarre too

and the actual rules they use are trade secrets so there's some degree of guesswork in what is good and bad too
