I get that from time to time. Smart phones are like a cross between ST tricorders and communicators.

I get it sometimes when using a cell phone to coordinate with someone. It reminds me of the countless minutes spent coordinating events with friends the day before because there would be no way of getting in touch with them once we left our homes. Also, I remember having to use pay phones a lot, and being aware of where to find them.

I liked the part where he went:
"I'm not just a boorish cunt to women, I'm a boorish cunt in general."

the only thing that makes this not as lame as that thread on sdn is that at least you're not mindblown by a horrible shitass phone :V

Hey man, when I was a kid we could only dream of this. I'm more amazed that it's possible not at the device itself which is just a flat touch screen PC. It's actually better then the one on my desk.

i dunno i think those retrospectives about how wrong that stuff was are more interesting
liek how in st people used tricorders for stuff... but only that stuff.. and had other devices for everything else
or how pads only displayed shit
that was high tech back then; a space kindle
we're so far past star trek it isn't even funny you know? huge levels of integration of functions and connection of devices wihtout some magical 3-storey main computer to make it happen :V
and yeah serious heaps of people i know are pretty much exclusively posting from their phones or tablets these days
i mean this is why my goddamn spelling is so fucked up, cause iphone 3gs = randomly ignore letters lol

Yeah, the spell check on these things is kinda spotty.
Good point though, everything is integrated. The only reason why I didn't replace my phone with this is that I didn't really want to pay extra.

depending on the stuff available on blackberry you'll prolly be able to get some kind of voice communication thing anyway
apple's silly facetime has replaced phonecalls to anyone with an apple thing lol :V

Given how much I use my phone, I wonder why I'm paying €30 a month for it... Sure, the price of the phone itself is included in this sum, but still...
Fucking Mobile Phone Operators and their monopolistic practices.

the phone itself is a small thing
but the network that makes it more than a game boy is a huge achievement
i don't mind paying $50 a month to have actual literal magic

Sure. It's just that when you are a jobeless student, you put into perspective the amount of magic with how much you use & pay for it.

Don't you have an internet connection ? *raised eyebrow*
... The standard over there these days (for "home phones") is the "Triple Play" box-offers, that include phone/internet/TV, and I'm currently beneficiary from my mother's "Quadruple Play" offer, which add mobiles into the whole thing (you can have more than one mobile for one Box).

i don't have a home phone either, because there's no reason to
just a basic cable package

Cable tv is laughably expensive here and I don't watch tv
Those deals are to lock people into providers; my parents have had endless problems with their Electra connection bu refuse to change because of TEH DISCOUNTS
And you can get a connection without a phone, you just need a physical line

unfortunately you don't need packages to lock customers into providers in murrica
our telecom system is monopolized and completely fucked

We have like four operators (company with physical infrastructure), three of them being in the mobile phone market and the fourth building its infrastructure for it as we speak. After that, you have countless virtual operators that just buy bandwidth and/or communication time from the Four Bigs to resell it to the customers.
Needless to say, the market is trusted.
