Godammed SDN
Re: Godammed SDN
yeah i should also elaborate that my perspective is a little bit warped
i come from a place where people like to take ten minutes and a whole pot to make a bowl of oatmeal
while i can do it in two minutes and directly in the bowl in the microwave
spergrage!! (i needed that pot now i must clean oatmeal)

Re: Godammed SDN
pot cooked oatmeal beats the hell out of the nuked variety
though the nuked stuff is good too
really the only bad oatmeal is burned oatmeal
the trick is to slow cook it on on the stovetop with low heat
oh yes

Re: Godammed SDN
similarly reheated pizza in the nuke is ok
but if you bake again it it's bettar

Re: Godammed SDN
it occurs to me that i never use my microwave for anything other than reheating something
and reheated food tastes like shit in comparison to stuff that was cooked fresh
i mean i've tried cooking scrambled eggs in the microwave once
never again

but you should be able to cook anything in the microwave just like an ovenStofsk wrote:it occurs to me that i never use my microwave for anything other than reheating something

a canadian engineer said so
Re: Godammed SDN
i've started nuking pop tarts
i used to always toast them
but i actually prefer the nuclear option there
usually the (non)ionizing radiation chamber is something i use to rapidly melt something
like butter when baking
or frozen sauce dips
and i use it when i want a cup of hot water LOLZ
but for the pop tarts it keeps the outside soft while making the inside hot
and i actually liek dat in this specific case

Re: Godammed SDN
it was awhile ago but i remember him going off on how wasteful conventional ovens were, and that you could cook anything in the microwave with better energy efficiencyStofsk wrote:wat
he said that??
Re: Godammed SDN
Yeah, because there more efficient. Guess he likes desiccated food.

Technically it is true. It's just not particularly appetizing.

Re: Godammed SDN
Yeah, I remember that too. Mike was going on in one thread about how conventional ovens are inefficient. To be fair I think he mentioned that he's got one of those microwaves that has a cooking lamp in it as well so that you can get some Maillard reaction going.
I use the microwave for cooking some stuff (I like doing vegetables in it), but there's other items that it's badly failed me on. For example, I like canned tomato soup when it's done on the stovetop, but I've tried the microwave with it and it comes out inedible to me.

Re: Godammed SDN
Hate to say this boys but modern microwaves also work as convention ovens and are indeed better in every respect

Re: Godammed SDN
Well I still have the same microwave I had when we got married, so...
Re: Godammed SDN
i also use it mostly to melt and defrost things, and make oatmeal
and also to cook vegetables actually
i like them way better microwaved than boiled or raw, and i hear some vegetables are more nutritious cooked than raw anyway sooo
and sometimes i make hot coco

i mean shit it still works and like i said all i use it for is to reheat last night's left overs, so there's never been an incentive to purchase a new one

Re: Godammed SDN
I looked it up, yeah, Mike's got a convection/microwave oven, so it's not really the same thing as "i microwave everything". LOL at that thread though, Faram says "I just threw away my fully functional Microwave oven, because I newer used it and it was taking space in my kitchen." and Marina pops in to say "you'll be sorry when everything goes to hell just around the corner!!"

modern microwaves make food nicer than old ones
but microwaves seem to be essentially god damn indestructable as long as you don't do something like sling a fork in there or something

Re: Godammed SDN
Even $120 microwaves here have conventional elements, even it they're not proper convection
Just well the eighteen blenders you all own and get a new microwave
