And TBH if you use those Tactical Directed Energy Modulation consoles (the ones with the generic +XX% energy damage bonus) you're probably not going to be too bad off. It mostly only matters for stuff like Elite STFs and the srs bzns players raeging at you.
If I do STFs (can you only do them on elite difficulty or something? Or are they literally called Elite STFs and the game difficulty can be set between easy mode and hard?), I'd want to do them with friends. I am not sure if that is possible but there you are.
Even if I play with randoms, I couldn't give a fuck what they think re: my ship/equipment setup.
My shields were okay, as the mission rewards would tend to give those out, and for my beams I use those blue TOS phasers that are on the C-Store Ent-Nil so they scale (which is awesome BTW*) but consoles and deflectors don't come about as often so I never really upgraded them.
i've done Night of the Comet at least three times just to get the TOS era weapons.
The phaser, disruptor and phaser rifle are all really nice and I love the little touches they added, like when you score a crit the target vapourises in the same fashion as on the show. And the sounds are perfect.
Hell, I still have Mk VI blue quantum torps because aside from getting lucky in a loot or reward drop, I have no way of replacing them outside of crafting or spending dilithium. Which I really, really don't want to do.
The cost for uncommon unreplicateable materials is bullshit. Having said that, it's not too hard to save up for it. My VA accrued around 51K and that has been in the last week or so. I also bought some dilithium from some leftover c-store credits after I bought most of the things I really want.
Speaking of which, if you want to get new consoles and stuff, check the Exchange. I replace pretty much every console I had with blue Mk XIs that way and it was probably only about 400k EC or so. Not too bad, and EC is quite a bit easier to get than dilithium. Weapons, torps and shields are probably overpriced but you should be good for consoles and deflector arrays.
As far as weapons are concerned, the quad cannons scale with my character's level so that's sorted. I need two beam arrays and four torpedo launchers. I like to get the same quality for everything and usually that means purple though, so I think the exchange will likely gouge me.
But I have over a million credits.
As far as Aegis you can, though from what I hear it's overshadowed by even the Jem'Hadar set which you can get when you play the 2800 missions. But then again those are at the end of the Rommie arc and you've been taking your time on the story missions so that could still be a good little ways away for you.
I just started the Rommie arc and I think it hit me hard that I need to upgrade my gear and ship. Luckily I completed the mission where you have to scan the cargo containers for the vulcan spy and then capture her and then take care of some romulan ships. That pushed me up to VA and I bought the retrofit soon after. Hopefully it'll be more surviveable and I am eager to test out the cloak.
Do you have any tips for class skill distribution for at tac officer? I haven't been spending my points and I've massed up a huge number of them. I need to get that sorted as well.
As for aegis vs jem'hadar or any other set, well like you've observed I haven't done the 2800 missions yet, but I'm trying to keep gear selection RP rather than min-max anyway. As far as I'm concerned I don't like seeing starfleet ships with borg shit or with purple jem'hadar nacelles. It's an aesthetic thing for me. Looking at the stats I don't know which wins to be honest.
