It's load crashes. The game basically freezes in mid scene as "loading" comes up during act 4 chapter 6 in the sub. I get to the part where Markus tells Dizzy to "take her in easy" and then bam, game freezes.

Goddamnit. I think the problem is the game disk, because when I go to install it it stops at 42% and says the disk is dirty despite it being spotless. However I looked at it under a bright light and the surface is discolored in a few spots, so I think that's what the problem is. I'd return it, but it's been a month and it's already been opened so I can't, thank you US consumer protection laws. I mean the lack thereof. On the bright side, my gears xbox is ordered and hopefully on the way, so even if it's my XBox that's the problem that will be remedied. In 14 to 28 days. I'll tell you man, gears 3 has been fucking with me from the start. First my online preorder gets fucked up, then I can't find the epic edition, and finally this. Meanwhile it looks like the fucktard I got the statue from on ebay sent it to the wrong address because the USPS is returning it to him due to "undeliverable as addressed". I'm starting to get a wee miffed.

a kind of waviness visible at certain angles is normal

but if the disk is fucked go get a new one and you'll be fine

It's not wavy, it's like a couple of oversized thumbprints of discoloration but it's not on the plastic. I looked at my receipt and they won't take it back as is their policy because they are cunts and can get away with pulling that shit. It has to be within 24 hours or unopened. Assholes. I might bring it in and see if yelling will accomplish anything other than getting me thrown out, though.

Just give it a shot, ask nicely, take it to the manager, mention that you're a regular customer because of their great service, etc. Where did you buy it, anyway?

FWIW I once bought a three-CD Italian course that had an issue on the very last tracks of the third disc (right on the edge of the CD it was missing material under the plastic) and I got an exchange eight or nine months later when I finally got around to that section. Businesses don't do well by fucking their customers unnecessarily.

That's pretty much how it is, too. For the most part you have the rights they decide to give you.

Dude I've seen Wal mart managers call the cops on a guy who was trying to return a fucking $5 dog bowl without a receipt, so I doubt big box stores give much of a fuck about service anymore.

the complete failure fo self-regulation to protect consumers is why real countries have consumer protection legislation

in au it's 60-90 days fault security, especially if the thing actually fails

amsuingly since it's law everyone is really nice about it and will go above and beyond to compete on service

rather than just treating customers like dogshit

Since I'm going to ask for a replacement I think I might get a good reception. Especially since the disk isn't cracked or scratched or anything like that, it's obviously a manufacturing flaw.

Yeah, but "most" places tend to be fairly reasonable if you're polite and explain what the situation is. Especially when you have the receipt and only want to do a straight up exchange.

Which you do.

Note that Walmart isn't included under most places. Not ever.

if it's not physically damaged are they actually required to believe you that it's faulty at all

i wonder what supply contracts are like in the US

here they'd just fault it back to the supplier and be credited whether it was actually faulty or not, so it costs the POS nothing and the supplier is assuming a certain level of fails anyway

Well I looked at their return policies online and it looks like I can exchange it within 30 days as long as it's defective, which it clearly is. So I think I'm good to go.
