Woot! A local shop has the Ruger Scout non-export version!

I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Is that the bolt action detach mag M21 budget sub? If so, good find.

Ah, very nice. Can't you buy semi rifles in Canada anymore? There was a time when my Canadian customers could own L1A1/FALs, but I couldn't. Now I can.

I don't know much in practice about gun (haven't even ever fired one), but this one look marvelous IMHO. I'd like to test my accuracy at long range with something like that.

The picatinny rail on top is a nice touch.
No.

If course, we have two SKS. I prefer bolt though, FAL's have been prohibited since 1992 iirc.

I am curious to try it at 200 yards, which is the longest shoot we have at the club. Probably have to put a scope on it as my eyes aren't that good but if I can get a two inch group at 200 I'll be happy.

With the Scout rail location over the barrel rather than the receiver, Aaron might have to put a pistol scope or low mag (4x) rifle scope on it. The eye relief on a rifle scope is a lot shorter than permissible on the Scout's pic rails. To a large extent, however, guns are like other purchases; personal preference rules. If Aaron can hit "minute of dirtbag" - er - 6-8 inches at 200 yards that's 1/3 a man's chest width. Good enough for self defense.

Aaron, if you want 2MOA at 200 yards ya might want to go with a Savage 110 or Ruger M77 with a mid-range 3-9x40 rifle scope. Just my two cents.

Wups you're right. I just did a dump of archive memory. My distributors HAD FALs which were grandfathered with the bad boy bayonet lugs; they weren't new purchase.

This is based off the M77 actually.

I have my eye on An IER scope but I'll give irons a go first. I have a junk BSA 4x laying around as well. Rugers all ship with rings that slot into the receiver as well.

Gotcha. With a receiver mount you should be good to go.

Ironically my most accurate rifle is my .22 1927 Stevens falling block with a tang-mounted peep and hooded front sight. #2 is the AR with the Simmons 3-9X40. I can put 5 rounds in a quarter at 100 yds with the Stevens and 5 rounds in a Susan B. Anthony at 100 yds with the AR. Go figure. I guess the HBAR's barrel isn't H enough! :quack:
