Part of the nausea was from realizing I'm "that guy" that doesn't know how to let go and move on.

There was an armed robber at the university of Alberta last night. Three guards murdered, one in hospital. Don't know if they caught the shooter yet. It's going to be a hard day. My uncle was murdered in an armed robbery a few years back, around this part of June. They never found his killers.

Shittily, like any time you place a profit motive on something that (if done properly) doesn't make much money and doesn't have an easily measurable impact on society.

Edit: even further back they privatized the mental health care stuff and so you get a bunch of companies who hire poorly trained, barely motivated (but cheap!) workers to take care of adults with developmental disabilities, culminating in incidents where someone gets left in a bathtub full of bleach or a lady who had a stroke is ignored for a whole day before an ambulance is called.

I think the first person responsible got fired, but the second didn't and no jail time either.

When you hear lots of people repeat something until you think it's smart.

And you hear them all repeating these propaganda reasons for it until they think it's smart and unassailable. They figure Truth is on their side. The stock arguments for privatizing the government haven't changed in thirty years, even though the names of the things we're privatizing have- we're doing X instead of Y and nobody bothers to change the reason for it from X' to Y'.

The fact that they can get away with this with their viewerbase means they have a lot of power over how they think. How are they going to use it? They can turn out more product, or they can entertain themselves. "Entertainment" option leads to closing the gate, open trade didn't.

And a LOT of people, at some level, wants an excuse to be all bad-boy and know that they're right so they're not going to get in trouble for hurting society. So there's this perverse pleasure in letting nasty shit happen to people you don't know, because of some unassailable truth that it never occurs to you to question. Because if they weren't on the wrong side of logic/philosophy/God/freedom/whatever, they'd be doing fine, but they're not so fuck them and no one will call you out on it.

It's like life on the Internet, only with flames made of actual fire and/or bleach.

I would say, though, that my quip wasn't entirely wrong, though, given this information.

First weekend of overtime is done. Next weekend is even more - 10-12 hrs shifts Saturday and Sunday. And evening/night overtime during both this coming week and the next week. This is on top of my usual End of Financial Year stress.

Bring on Friday 29 June, when I will finally have a day off to look forward to. 18 days straight of work... Yay.
