It's a fantasy. I'll never be in a position to buy the stuff. Spending that much on equipment is useless for just casual playing, anyway.

Saw Richie Branson, Powerglove, and MC Chris last night with my wife. It was a fucking awesome show, but now I have what I hope is minor but temporary hearing loss in my right ear and a super-hoarse throat.

Shit, his set went on for an hour and a half because he kept doing encores. He kept asking us if the show was over. Of course, we kept saying no.Darth Fanboy wrote:What songs?Akhlut wrote:MC Chris
Anyway, in non-chronological order, there was Wiid, Emo Party, Tasty Face, Fett's Vette, The Tussin, White Kids Love Hip Hop (a metal remix version), Hoodie Ninja, Part One, Nrrd Girl, Jelly Inside, IG-88 '57 Chevy, 006, I Want Candy, and some others, I think. He did a lot of songs with different backing tracks.

Saw Cirque du Soleil's Kooza last night for my sister's birthday.
It was a great show; I really enjoyed it.

The setup I want would be around the same kind of money, but I don't have that to burn so I make the best out of the setup I haveKnubble tov wrote:The problem with this hobby is that it's expensive,. The setup I want is probably around $8k, including the guitars, the amp head and cabinet, the effects and the pedal board.
I'm just glad I'm not really passionate about cello or trombone or any 'real' instrument, because to steal a quote from Kevin Rudd, they're fucking expensive.

Indeed. Which amp would you love to have? I'd love a Diezel VH4. I played one last year at a local guitar shop and it blew me away. Even a $500 guitar sounded fantastic on it.timmy wrote:The setup I want would be around the same kind of money, but I don't have that to burn so I make the best out of the setup I haveKnubble tov wrote:The problem with this hobby is that it's expensive,. I would say "I'll stick with photography" but holy fuck are the prices of the really good lenses obscene.
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
is there hobbies which don't become obscenely expensive once you start getting really serious about it
No.

thanks to piracy becoming a film, book, or especially music snob is easier than ever

True. I've been buying and trading movies and TV Blu-rays to make up for my limited income, though.Nietzslime wrote:thanks to piracy becoming a film, book, or especially music snob is easier than ever

the closet in my brand new apartment looks like someone took a shit all over the place
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
If you live in Florida, they all look like that. It's because someone did.

If MovieStop would expand their locations, it would make the hobby less expensive. They constantly have "trade two Blu-rays worth more than $4 and get a free new release" promotions. I did this for Prometheus, something I haven't seen, and Titanic. I'll likely do it again with TDKR or save my pennies for a potential Best Buy exclusive steelbook to match their recently-release BB and TDK ones. Hell, buying used Blu-rays is perfectly acceptable given that the discs stand up to excessive use. They don't scratch as easily as DVDs do.Oxymoron wrote:That's not what I'd call becoming seriousNietzslime wrote:piracy
Earlier this summer I picked up the rest of Fincher's collection so I could watch and critique. Unfortunately the underrated The Game won't be available on Blu-ray in the States until September, and even then it will be $30. Fucking Criterion. /shakes knub
Panic Room is lacking a BD release as well.

Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
man i'd been told one of bluray's weaknesses compared to hd-dvd is that they were way more fragile comparatively to both formats
anyway flagg it's funny you say that because one of our friends who helped had lived in florida for a couple years and basically said exactly that

Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
Yeah, I've never even seen a "steelbook".
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
What's funny is that in 15 years when we switch formats again all of those will be as useless as a fucking 8-track.
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
look it takes years of work to say that the emotional impact of a dramatic reading sucks, okay?
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
But how will people differentiate themselves from the hoi palloi if they don't have ultra exclusive packaging for the same product? Someone has to be first among equals.
That's why I'm not on BR at all. No point.

Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
I guess I really shouldn't judge though, I mean I want this so bad.
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
Blu Ray is great if you have a big TV and DVD's look like shit. Otherwise there's not much point to it unless you just love the new effects in Star Trek and TNG lol.
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
Well, I know I sometimes like to pick up collectors editions of things, or shit like that
but it's not because of "what will other people think of me" bullshit, but because I'm a fan of the work and would like "more" than just the movie/game/book/disc/whatever.
like, "expanding" the experience, you see ?
I know it's ridiculous
but whatever
