Yeah, you will notice a difference, but not a huge one with that TV. Mine is too big for DVD's.

The difference can be seen on a 13" laptop. That 480p image on a 1280x720 screen is going to look worse than the 720p image if the studio didn't fuck up the transfer.

Edit: If you can't tell the difference between DVD and Blu-ray here, I guess it's best you don't upgrade in the future.

I get them when they're cheap. I got BB and TDK for $4.99/piece after giving the store two DVDs. Also note that the only available Blu-ray of Scarface when it was originally released was a steelbook and I got it by trading in two BDs. I could have pirated it, sure, but I didn't want to. But I'm a fatty nerd.

Edit: Owning a movie is not a hobby. The hobby is watching films and analyzing them for entertainment. Writing about them too, which I love.

Yes. I happen to like the look of steelbooks more. But they are expensive, so I get them when they're cheaper or the same price as the amaray releases (blue cases), as was the case with BB and TDK. The only reason I'm considering the TDKR steelbook if it gets one is for consistency.

Yes. Maximum Movie Mode is very cool. A host interrupts the movie to talk about the production.

Picture in Picture is also cool. Little video overlays pop up while you watch the movie to show various behind the scenes.

Criterion is seen as the best studio for bonus features, but their shit routinely costs $30+ (the 2-3 disc sets are more than some TV sets), so I only buy what I know I'll watch again.

It depends. If a collector's edition has a shitload of bonus features and new content that are up my alley (like the LotR Extended sets) I'll trade my other copy and get those. But shit like "buy this to get this photo book and trading cards", I pass. It';s like those Potter fans that buy the ultimate editions for terrible documentaries, a photo book, and trading cards. they keep getting suckered. The Wizards set is out soon and it's going to cost at least $250 and it has all of the same shit with very little new.

Edit: The problem with Blu-ray is that you must research prior to buying. You don't want to get saddled with the Universal catalogue butchering (The Big Lebowski, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Jurassic park, Back to the Future, etc).

Collector's Edition is a buzzword anyway. I don't give a shit about resell value. However, I could easily sell my Zodiac Blu-ray for 5x what I paid for it because it's out of print.

I don't think that the term was originated by marketers, but now it's all marketing.

You want to know how far people take Blu-ray collecting? Many refuse to buy a release they want if there's no slipcover. Some routinely return items to Amazon if there's a damaged slipcover. When I bought Pulp fiction, I tore it up and used it as an avatar to troll those people.
