The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
Welp, can't say I didn't give Rochester a chance. Last night here and my initial impression still stands. This city is way too empty and it should have a lot more people in it than it does.

My uncle knocked up his mistress new wife so I'll be a godfather in two weeks. Bay car seats and strollers are fucking expensive.

But whether they're yours or a relative's or a stranger's kids, any expense involved is worth it.
On another note, my grandmother passed away Saturday morning at 3:15AM and I wasn't there for it, but most of my family including sis and mom and my favorite uncle were. I'm off on the bird to Ohio Tuesday to attend the viewing, funeral mass and interment. Requescat en pace, Grandma. Dammit, now I'm all emo and shit again. I thought I got over this yesterday.

Thanks. I know I'm lucky that she lived 89 years. I was looking forward to her 90th at the end of this month, but it wasn't in the cards I guess. Still, she was here in Florida for four months and I got to spend a lot of time with her, as did my son. It's just hard seeing the brightest light in your family's constellation wink out, you know? Dammit now I'm emo again and out of Kleenex.

I'm in an Amtrak car filled with screaming toddlers. For five more hours. Someone kill me.

Find something shiny and toss it in the aisle. Problem solved.

you can always tell who is using an alleged smart phone because when they text you they make three times as many spelling errors, and send you twice as many messages
the extra texts contain corrections to their errors
it's a cash cow for the phone operators i'm sure

So finally got to Boston and lemme say it feels great to be back in a city that doesn't feel like it's on its final death throes.

Dude. I don't know what you're talking about. Rochester is pretty swell, especially compared to the graveyard that is the rest of New York north of Manhattan.

Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
I could walk around for an hour and see no more than 20 people. There weren't any more than a handful of stores in the central business district, and there were "for sale or for rent" signs in practically every other building downtown, to top it off everyone vanishes after 5pm. Rochester is not a healthy city.Straha wrote:Dude. I don't know what you're talking about. Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
It starts to get depressing once you realize that Rochester used to have twice as many people as it does now, urban decay was everywhere. If it were the country-side then no big deal, but Rochester felt like a ghost town.Crazedwraith wrote:This bit sounds freaking awesome to me. but then i hate cities anyway.Zod wrote:I could walk around for an hour and see no more than 20 people.
Re: The Testingtard's Lament: Boo-Hoo-in' Revolution
Same population as where I live, but Hobart has moved - somehow - past the ghost town feel that had set in when I first moved here. Left wing agenda has been killing regional industry bit by bit, but there's enough cultural intertia to sustain a tourism industry. I doubt you'll still be living in Rochester in fifteen years hence, but who knows how things might develop.
I spent an hour in Billings, Montana. I think I might know what you're getting at.

My car is sick...
Very sick...
It'll still cost less to fix than replace though, although the ratio is far lower than I'd like.
